On Tuesday evening, Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes was present at the unveiling of the project to build "student flats", apartments for students. These apartments will be constructed in the building that formerly housed the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Department of Economic Affairs, and at one time, the Central Bank. However, for years this building has been abandoned. The Prime Minister indicated that since the Wever-Croes Cabinet took office, it has focused more on developing the city center and seeking out government-owned and abandoned buildings to give them a new purpose.
For the construction of the apartments for the students, the Government of Aruba partnered with FCCA, which believed in the Government's vision to revitalize the city center. FCCA is making an investment of approximately 4 million florins to build 19 apartments. These apartments are for students coming from abroad to study at the University of Aruba, but also for local students who need a place to live.
"I thank FCCA for believing in the Government's vision and for their partnership in making this project a reality. I hope that this collaboration inspires more private sector partners to assist in the revitalization of the city center.
Thanks to Minister Geoffrey Wever for this achievement, and also to the DIP and DOW Departments, who worked hard to make this possible. Lastly, I thank the people in general for the trust placed in our Government. When we were elected, the people asked us to lead Aruba out of the pandemic and stabilize the economy, and we have achieved this. The people also asked us to help our island progress and prosper, and this is what we are working on. The focus now is to bring progress and well-being to every corner of our country, and this is our commitment. We will continue to make our utmost efforts to fulfill it as well," expressed the Prime Minister.
